STITCHED INTO SILENCE
Built in 1948 and closed in 2005, the former garments factory still stands—silent and boarded up—while the surrounding market gardens have long since been reclaimed by local residents. Its distinctive water tower, once essential for fighting factory fires, remains a local landmark, illuminated each night in shifting colours. Perhaps most intriguing is a section of the factory fashioned from a dismantled aircraft hangar, originally used in Papua New Guinea during the Second World War and later transported to Australia piece by piece.
