HOSPITAL BY THE SEA

Nearly a century ago, this was a jewel in Victoria’s healthcare crown: an orthopaedic children’s hospital that helped pioneer paediatric rehabilitation. Forty years later it shifted into aged care, and more recently the extensive grounds became home to council offices.

Then came disaster. Sold to developers just before COVID, the project stalled, leaving the site empty and exposed. Vandalism followed -copper stripped, windows shattered, graffiti scrawled across walls - as the gardens grew wild and unkempt.

Now it sits in limbo: a cluster of hollow buildings on prime beachfront land, surrounded by multi-million-dollar mansions yet serving only as a decaying eyesore.

Still worthy of photos? Absolutely.
